Field Trip

This is roughly a two mile-walk on a level, paved path around the pond.

Join us on a bird walk to observe resident birds and fall migrants in a unique urban setting that is a favorite habitat for many bird species. We will walk about 1.5 miles on gravel paths in search of late fall sparrows. This is usually a good spot for Lincoln’s and Clay-colored Sparrows. We never know what else might show up.  I will arrive early to listen for Great Horned Owls.

Led by DCR staff. We will search on foot up to one mile, on flat, easy terrain for snowy owls and other raptors, native sparrows, finches, and waterfowl. We will explore various hot-spots on the refuge for fall migrants. The walk will then continue to other nearby locations based on current reports. Anything is possible during fall migration! Note that an entrance fee or pass is required to enter Parker River NWR.

Late Fall is often a time of year for fall lingerers, winter arrivals and often a surprise or two. Join us for an approximately 2 mile walk around Mt. Auburn over rolling terrain. Restrooms available
