The four of us enjoyed a cool, misty morning along the mile+ of trails. An early stop by the pond platform was highlighted by a flyby Great Blue Heron and a pair of Barred Owl hooting from off in the woods. Further down the trail we encountered the first of many singing Ruby-crowned Kinglets, a flock of Palm Warblers, and a Red-bellied Woodpecker poking its head out of a nest cavity. An early Blue-headed Vireo put in an appearance along with many singing White-throated Sparrows and a skulky Hermit Thrush. On the grassy hill we watched a young Red-tailed Hawk be mobbed by several Blue Jays and Flickers, and had a Rusty Blackbird fly over. Finally after some scrambling up the rocky hill we were treated to a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker before closing out with a (slightly wet) walk back to the entrance.
