Unless otherwise stated, BBC field trips and webinars are open to all participants and are free to attend. Most field trips do not need preregistration though all webinars do. As part of the Trustees's event at Fruitlands called Flying Into Fall: A Birding Adventure Celebrating October Big Day 2025, Kathy Dia from the BBC will lead a bird walk from 2 to 3:30pm. A mid-late afternoon stop at Arlington Reservoir and adjacent Lexington Community Farm. We'll hope to add some shorebirds, raptors, and interesting sparrows to our Big Day lists.

Join Mass. Audubon and the Brookline Bird Club to observe resident birds and fall migrants in a unique urban habitat that is a favorite for many bird species, including uncommon and rare birds. Offered by Menotomy Bird club. Join us we take a walk exploring the varied habitats of the Horn Pond Conservation Area. The walk will focus on the main pond, accompanying lagoons, and marsh areas with a particular focus on the Community Gardens in search of migrating fall warblers and sparrows. We'll spend the morning checking the thickets on the wooded trails for fall migrants, walking the bike path along the canal where wintering waterfall should just be coming in and exploring the campground area. During the past few years the refuge has opened the dike to hiking during National Wildlife Refuge Week. We will plan to do that hike if the dike is again open this year. Otherwise we hike the boardwalk and normal dike area.
In the fall water levels are lowered creating good conditions for ducks and shorebirds. We will also visit the adjacent Lexington community farm. Birds are found feasting on the remains of the crops planted there. We will walk about a mile on wide paths and some uneven ground (possibly muddy). Note that the reservoir area
