Unless otherwise stated, BBC field trips and webinars are open to all participants and are free to attend. Most field trips do not need preregistration though all webinars do. While you do not need to be a club member to attend, we hope you will join us. See the Field Trip FAQ for answers to general questions. Contact leaders for more details about specific trips.

We’re offering this popup trip for the Bridled Tern. We will limit the trip because of concerns about available parking and group size being too large. Please informally register by sending email to fieldtrips@brooklinebirdclub.org. If you are carpooling, please send one email for the whole car. We’ll count you as one person since parking is our biggest concern. We’ll send you a reply email Wednesday evening confirming that we have room for you. We will also use your email to send a cancellation if we think the bird has left the area.

You can go to the lighthouse pretty much anytime for a chance of seeing this bird and we encourage that too. There are likely to be other birders there to help you find it. The Bridled Tern is being seen frequently there. If you have a scope, you may spot it further off and possibly drive to a better vantage point. This is not a hard bird to see if you are patient and it hasn’t left. We don’t know how long it will be around.

If you have a scope or a telephoto camera, we encourage you to bring it.

The meeting spot is the Scituate lighthouse parking lot. The attached google map has a point you can use for directions. You can just enter Scituate Lighthouse in your favorite navigation app and it should be fine.

It is a pretty good spot for limited mobility. It depends on where the bird is. There’s a good chance it can be seen from flat paved ground reachable from the paved parking lot with a couple of handicapped spots. Sometimes it requires walking some short distance on a beach to see it though. Not perfect, but limited mobility persons are welcome.
