We will visit multiple habitats in search of birds with breeding ranges north of typical BBC trip locations. This trip starts with a tram ride up to the top of Cannon Mountain. We will enjoy the views and songs of the Winter Wren on the ride up and then search the summit trails for the elusive and range-restricted Bicknell’s Thrush. After a quick lunch at the base of the mountain (BYO or limited items for purchase), the trip moves to Pondicherry NWR where we will walk for a few miles in search of northern forest and wetland species. Some species that may be possible (but far from guaranteed) on this trip: Winter Wren, Bicknell’s Thrush, Ruffed Grouse, Common Loon, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Boreal Chickadee, Black-backed Woodpecker, and various northern-breeding song birds. Expected tram ticket price is $25. Sunscreen and insect repellant recommended. Limited participation: if you intend to attend, please email the leader no later than 1 week in advance.

BBC field trips are open to all participants. Unless otherwise stated, all trips are free to attend and do not need preregistration. You do not need to be a club member to attend, though we hope you will join. See the Field Trip FAQ for answers to general questions. Contact leaders for more details about specific trips.

We follow all policies of field trip location property owners and co-sponsoring organizations. These may include ongoing public health measures. Some participants may choose to wear a face mask for health purposes. We support their right to do so.

We hope to see you out birding soon!
