Comments:    65F – 72F; light breeze and sunny.  Twelve of us of the Boxborough Birders and Brookline Bird Club had good sightings.  Many birds in canopy or in flight we could not identify from a distance (and, being absorbed with excellent warbler sightings.)  Also saw 2 deer at New Meadow and 2 in the woods.

Sharp-shinned/Cooper’s Hawk  1
Red-tailed Hawk  3    Soaring high beyond and near New Meadow.
Red-bellied Woodpecker  2
Downy Woodpecker  1
Pileated Woodpecker  1    Heard near New Meadow
American Kestrel  1    Three of us had a brief sighting near Pergola site and it soared over meadow towards New Meadow.
Eastern Wood-Pewee  2
Willow Flycatcher  1    Heard
Eastern Phoebe  5
Great Crested Flycatcher  1    Heard very clearly
Eastern Kingbird  6    2 at edge at Old Meadow; balance near parking lots
Blue-headed Vireo  1    Heard near old meadow in edge foliage

    Join us to observe resident birds and winter migrants in a unique urban habitat that is a favorite for many bird species, including uncommon and rare birds. Dress warmly and be prepared for snow/ice, cold, and wind. Expect to walk approximately 2 miles on paved/level paths. Boots & Yak Traks or similar antiskid footwear recommended

  • Deer Island & Boston Harbor, Winthrop

    Winthrop - Deer Island Parking Lot 180 Tafts Ave., Winthrop, MA, United States

    We will search for wintering seabirds, alcids, and Iceland Gulls. Be prepared for cold and wind and dress very warmly. Depending on conditions, we will walk up to 2.6 miles on paved paths. Port-a-potties available midway and near the parking area. Beginners welcome and encouraged. Update: Based on other locations, we will be walking in
