Checklist Comments:    BBC walk, pop-up for the Gullapalooza. Fewer Gulls today but we saw Glaucous aand Iceland and got eveone on them. I counted 21 people including 2 leaders at one point. May have been more.

Gull estimatation method: We estimated total of 3500 gulls on the beach and near beach waters. We estimated about 5% Ring-billed and 7% or 8% Greater Black-backed, and the rest American Herring. 

The other bird counts are direct counts or much more accurate estimates.

Checklist Comments:    Brookline Bird Club walk. Ray Bedard led the walk with 6 participants. 

31 degrees to start with a slight breeze. 37 degrees at the end of the walk and the wind was starting to pick up a bit. A mix of sun and clouds. 

We had a Short-eared Owl flush fairly close to the trail which along us to watch how they fly. I think the White-crowned Sparrows stole the show. A couple of adult birds feeding on the pathway. Hopefully we get some good pics uploaded!

Meeting at fisherman statue at 8:30 am. Brisk wind at this location and several sites. Eastern side of Cape Ann was more sheltered and had much calmer oceans. High tide 10:30 am with splash over in several sites as it was a full moon. Jodrey Fish Pier was lacking in gull numbers, nothing unusual and low numbers of common species of gulls. Rocky Neck, waves splashing over sea wall by Wonson Cove. Due to strong winds we skipped Niles Beach and headed to Eastern Point Audubon where we had several duck species. Skipped Niles Pond due to it being frozen and skaters on the pond. Backshore was much better and was sheltered by the wind. We made two stops, Elks Club and Cormorant Rock. Here we had much better views of birds on the ocean. Good Harbor beach was not productive. Rockport stops were Granite Pier and Cathedral Ledge. Good amount of Harlequin Duck at both sites. Brant was a pleasant addition at Granite Pier. Trip ended at 1:45 high temp 32 degrees.

Checklist Comments:    Brookline Bird Club Race Point Beach walk. Leader Ray Bedard. No participants today most likely due to the snowy conditions. 

Temps ran at about 32 degrees the entire walk. Winds were very light. There was a little snow coming down at the beginning and end of the walk. 

Started at RPB and walked the beach to the lighthouse then followed the fire road out.
