Unless otherwise stated, BBC field trips and webinars are open to all participants and are free to attend. Most field trips do not need preregistration though all webinars do. We will look for early migrants, waterfowl, and waders. Conditions may be wet; boots advised. Note that an entrance fee or pass is required.
Join us for a warbler-filled walk at Gaining Ground and Massport Trails in Concord/Bedford! The habitat surrounding Hanscom Airport is unique and supports a variety of spring migrants and nesting species. Expect to see flycatchers, sparrows, raptors, and colorful warblers in the varied habitats of this amazing spring hotspot. Roughly 2 mile round trip walk
Join me at this wonderful birding spot which hosts many nesting species and migrants. Blue-winged Warbler, American Redstart, and Indigo Buntings are regular nesters. Each year brings a few surprises in late May. In past years, around this date, these have included Alder Flycatcher, Yellow-throated Vireo, Kentucky Warbler, and both cuckoos. This is a one-mile
This area is great for late migrants and nesting species. Baltimore Oriole, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and Cedar Waxwing are regulars. Alder Flycatcher and Common Nighthawks are possible. This is a one-mile walk on paved paths and boardwalk. Insect repellent suggested.
In June, this wonderfully preserved grassland is alive with the songs of breeding Grasshopper and Vesper Sparrow, which are state listed as endangered species. Prairie Warbler, Indigo Bunting, and American Kestrels nest regularly here as well. A mile walk on level grade; can be dry so bring water.
