Unless otherwise stated, BBC field trips and webinars are open to all participants and are free to attend. Most field trips do not need preregistration though all webinars do. Join us for a 7 day exploration of the mountains and lakes of western Maine! As always, this trip will concentrate on Maine's boreal specialties including Spruce Grouse, Black-backed Woodpecker, Olive-sided and Yellow-bellied Flycatchers, Philadelphia Vireo, Gray Jay, Boreal Chickadee, Bicknell's Thrush and 20+ species of warbler. Approximately 1.5 mile walk along an old railbed and through forest to the marsh edge in search of American and Least Bittern, and other wetland species such as Virginia Rail, Sora, Marsh Wren, raptors, herons, egrets, and blackbirds. If time permits we may also walk the Partridge Island trail nearby. All skill levels welcome. Terrain [...] Join Glenn on a 5-to-6-mile walk through a very birdy area with species ranging from Broad-winged Hawk to Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Blue-headed Vireo, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Scarlet Tanager, Baltimore Oriole, and lots of stuff in between. All the nesting birds will still be around, with good views of young out of the nest being fed by parents: Veery, Indigo Bunting, Catbird, Red-winged Blackbird, Tree Swallow, Bobolink, Wood Thrush, Baltimore Oriole, and Warblers. We walk through the sanctuary looking for shorebirds and other marsh specialties. Targets will be waders, breeding songbirds, Saltmarsh Sparrows, and maybe even a lucky Seaside Sparrow. The walking is moderate and trails are accessible. It may be warm and there will be bugs!

We'll check the marshes and the mudflats in Squantum for shorebirds, starting at Mosswetusset Hummock and visiting other spots nearby. At high tide around 10:00 am, we'll try checking the high tide roosts for shorebirds as well. Be prepared for the possibility of biting insects. Cosponsored with South Shore Bird Club.
