SUMMARY:Belle Isle Marsh Marine Ecology Park\, Winthrop
DESCRIPTION:Join us to observe resident birds and early fall migrants in a unique urban habitat that is a favorite for many bird species\, including uncommon and rare birds. A BNC naturalist will help us find and identify birds through field marks\, sounds\, and behaviors. Birders of all levels will enjoy these guided walks; beginning birders are encouraged to come! The trails are flat and easy to walk. \nTarget birds include Common Raven; Dowitchers & Yellowlegs; Glossy Ibis\, Green Heron; Osprey; Oystercatcher; Peregrine Falcon; Semi-Palmated Plovers & Sandpipers; Saltmarsh Sparrow; Snowy Egret; Tree\, Rough-Winged\, & Barn Swallows; Great Blue Heron; Virginia Rail; Willet\, Yellow-crowned Night-Heron. \nHats\, waterproof footwear\, and insect repellent and sunblock are recommended. \nThe walk is free but all participants must pre-register by emailing cgeorge@massaudubon.org and copying neil.calabro1@mac.com.  Please note that participants must be at least 13 years of age and this outing is limited to 15 people.

SUMMARY:Summer Wildflowers of Great Meadows NWR Concord
DESCRIPTION:Ted Elliman will guide us for this walk along the trails at the Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Concord will focus on the wildflowers that are blooming in the site’s marshes\, floodplains\, and meadows.  These wetland habitats support a tremendous diversity of plants\, many of which are in spectacular bloom in summer. \nNote that entrance fee or pass is required. \nFor many years Ted Elliman worked as a botanist for Native Plant Trust.  Now retired\, he continues to teach botany and ecology classes for Native Plant Trust and other conservation organizations and botanical gardens in New England.
