DESCRIPTION:Cancelled due to wind and rain. \nJoin Cassandra for an introductory\, baby-friendly bird walk and mini-lesson for parents with young children (0-3 yrs). It’s never too early to start learning about and enjoying birds! The first 15-20 minutes will cover introductions and bird facts\, followed by a 40-60 minute exploratory walk in sun and shade. Little ones welcome in carriers\, strollers\, or on foot. Stay for all or part of the walk — whatever works for your family. \nMost birds will be spotted with the naked eye (hopefully!) — binoculars optional. DESCRIPTION:Join us to observe resident birds and summer migrants in a unique urban habitat that is a favorite for many bird species\, including uncommon and rare birds. Birders of all levels will enjoy this walk. The trails are (generally) flat and easy to walk. A water bottle and water proof clothing including a hat are recommended. \nPre-registration is encouraged as walk sizes are limited. There is a chain link fence with (worn out\, not easy to see) signs authorizing public parking alongside the fence. Park in front of that fence. You’ll see a sign in the far back of the lot that says Belle Isle Marsh Marine Ecology Park. Meet in front of the sign. Please don’t park in a spot that says for gym only.

SUMMARY:Arlington Reservoir
DESCRIPTION:In the fall water levels are lowered creating good conditions for ducks and shorebirds. We will also visit the adjacent Lexington community farm. Birds are found feasting on the remains of the crops planted there. We will walk about a mile on wide paths and some uneven ground (possibly muddy). SUMMARY:Fresh Pond Reservation (Early Birders Series)
DESCRIPTION:Join fellow birders in their 20s-30s as we visit Fresh Pond Reservation! Located in the northwest part of Cambridge\, Fresh Pond is home to 162 acres of space consisting of forests\, meadows\, wetlands\, and open water. As we navigate our way around the 2.5 mile park loop trail\, expect to see all kinds of songbirds\, waterbirds\, and fall migrants (especially ducks & warblers!) as we embrace peak Fall migration time in Massachusetts!\nIf you’re interested\, stick around afterwards and we may walk over to Mount Auburn Cemetery for more birding depending on the conditions.\nWhether you’re a newcomer looking to start a new hobby or are a seasoned bird expert\, birders of all experience levels in their 20s and 30s are encouraged to join! Let’s connect through our mutual appreciation for birds and the environment! Hope to see you there!\nDress for the weather conditions; bring water! Expect to walk approximately 3 miles on mostly paved/level paths. Bring binoculars if you have them; loaners are available on request (please email the trip leader ahead of time). Port-a-potties are available at the ranger station on the south side of the park. \nThis trip is specifically dedicated to those aged 20-39 years. Please do not bring children. \nPlan to meet at the first intersection south of the park entrance across the street from 603 Concord Ave. You will be in the right place if you are approaching an open area (Lusitania Field). Meeting location coordinates: 42.38801\, -71.14504. \nParking meters on Cambridge streets are generally free and without a duration limit on Sunday. Be sure to read the sign – “Except Sunday” means you are fine. Metered parking on Wheeler St and Faucet St shuld be free. There is also parking on Huron Ave on the sourthern edge of the resercvation. Some parking there or elsewhere will be marked as resident only but most of those spots will say “Except Sunday” (be sure to read the sign) and that really does mean you can park there on Sunday.\nThe Alewife T station has paid parking and is a walk 15 minutes to the meeting location. \nPublic transit:Getting off at the Concord Ave/Wheeler St stop on the 74 or 78 bus is the most direct option for getting close to the meeting location. Whether you’re a newcomer looking to start a new hobby or are a seasoned bird expert\, birders of all experience levels in their 20s and 30s are encouraged to join! DESCRIPTION:We don’t know what we will find and what condition the beach will be in. Just seems like a good time to plan a trip. We will walk up and donw the beach a mile or more.  \nWe may have to traverse deep snow to get out there. Might be messy conditions on the beach below the high tide point. Could be pretty cold. Dress for the expected conditions. \nA scope will be useful\, but you will have to carry it a ways. \nThere are bathroom facilities at the meeting spot. \nLow tide is about 10am. We want a lower tide to expose the food and have viewing room for everything going on.

DESCRIPTION:Led by DCR staff. We will search on foot up to one mile\, on flat\, easy terrain for snowy owls and other raptors\, native sparrows\, finches\, waterfowl\, and other birds. This is a traveling program by car or bike. Prepare for ticks. Ages: Adults and kids 8 years+ with adult chaperone. Binoculars recommended.
