SUMMARY:Bring Back Bobolinks: Bobolink Walk at Appleton Farms Ipswich with the Grasslands Survey Team (New!)
DESCRIPTION:New addition to our Bring Back Bobolinks conservation series. \nRani date July 2 – check with leader in case of rain.\nJoin new BBC members and Trustees Grassland Birds Monitoring Project volunteers Andy and Tina Haubert on their regular survey at this well known location for breeding and nesting Bobolinks.  We’ll observe field marks\, song\, and behavior as we walk along the survey area.  Slow easy pace\, flat meadow trails. Stool and binoculars helpful.  Leader will have scope. Learn how easy and fun it is to help protect these beautiful birds and how you too can volunteer!  A fun easy walk for all interested in this endangered species! \nThe location is Appleton Farm (TTOR) in Ipswich. The meeting place is the parking all the way in at the cluster of buildings in the back. Drive in the main entrance (219 County Rd\, Ipswich). Once you enter\, stay right and go all the way back to parking on the right side at the end of the road. This is paid parking ($6) if you aren’t a TTOR member. There is a free parking lot where Waldingfield Rd intersects with Rt 1A (County Rd) Here is a map link for the alternate parking: https://maps.app.goo.gl/DPjdK4k66ZZPvPWr7 and this is the map link for the paid parking (that is free only to TTOR members): https://maps.app.goo.gl/wnihcxEz8sxAta4WA). From the free parking\, it is a 10 to 15 minute walk from the meeting spot on an easy trail. Just look for the buildings and the parking near the smaller cluster of buildings (not the bigger buildings). \nThere are restrooms here. \n

SUMMARY:Quabbin Reservoir (was July 5)
DESCRIPTION:With the extreme heat conditions the leader has decided to walk Gate 10 until 9:00 am and then turn back to the cars.  This section of the walk is under trees and is much more comfortable than the trip back out of the Quabbin.  Back at the cars we can decide to go to Quabbin Park and/or Lake Wallace.  The trip will end no later than noon. \nJoin Glenn on this walk through a very birdy area with species ranging from Broad-winged Hawk to Yellow-bellied Sapsucker\, Blue-headed Vireo\, Chestnut-sided Warbler\, Scarlet Tanager\, Baltimore Oriole\, and lots of stuff in between. (Maybe a moose or a bobcat!) Co-sponsored with the South Shore Bird Club.

SUMMARY:Bring Back Boblinks: Bobolinks at Heard Farm\, Wayland (New!)
DESCRIPTION:New addition to our Bring Back Bobolinks conservation series. \nThis gem works its way into the rotations of many birders once discovered. It is managed for dog walking (no dogs on this walk please) and bobolinks\, which in a good year can number 100 or more. We will be using dirt trails and boardwalks. Trails can be muddy depending on recent weather. Decent luck should bring 30 to 50 species depending migration and whether all routes are accessible\, including a variety of warblers\, ducks\, waders and raptors. \nPull over if you can on Pelham Island Rd on the way to view the waders and ducks and maybe raptors in or near the pond on the left.

SUMMARY:Bring Back Bobolinks: Codman Estate Farm (Was Drumlin Farm) (New!)
DESCRIPTION:This walk was planned for Drumlin Farm but more Bobolinks can be seen at this nearby location so we’ve moved the walk to Codman Farms. \nAdding to our Bobolink conservation series. \nJoin Ilija to observe and appreciate Bobolinks in breeding habitat! \nBobolinks are migratory grassland birds found across Massachusetts. The Bobolink is listed as a Species of Greatest Conservation Need in Massachusetts and faces global declines driven by habitat loss and early mowing practices that destroy nests\, making coordinated land management essential for its conservation. \nThe meeting point is at the back of Donelan’s Supermarket parking lot\, 145 Lincoln Rd.\, Lincoln. Please park towards the back of the grocery lot\, but not in the Park & Ride lot (back lot).
