SUMMARY:Mt Auburn Cemetery Rescheduled from Sunday
DESCRIPTION:This trip has been rescheduled from Sunday (9/20) to Saturday (9/19). \nJoin us to observe resident birds and fall migrants in a unique urban habitat that is a favorite for many bird species\, including uncommon and rare birds. Birders of all levels will enjoy this walk. The trails are (generally) flat though there are some hills. A water bottle\, water proof clothing including a hat\, sunblock & insect repellent are recommended. \nPre-registration is encouraged as walk sizes are limited. Please register by emailing neil.calabro 1@mac.com. \nEnter from Mt. Auburn St. Meet in front of the Story Chapel on Central Ave\, across from the Asa Gray Garden (Lawn Ave circle). Gates open fairly promptly at 8am for pedestrians\, bicycles\, and cars. Bicycle parking is available just inside the gates but no bicycles riding is allowed in the cemetery.

DESCRIPTION:Most birders experience migration through the birds that arrive\, depart\, or pass overhead by day — but throughout the night\, another migration is unfolding largely out of sight. This presentation will introduce nocturnal flight calls and the recordists who use them to experience and study that hidden movement. We will draw on examples from the Northeast\, the history of bird sound recording\, and the broader development of NFC monitoring in North America. No technical background is needed: the goal is to open a window onto an extraordinary part of bird life happening above us while most of us are asleep\, while showing interested birders where they can go next if they want to listen or record for themselves. \n\nTo register you must be a BBC member. It’s never too early to start learning about and enjoying birds! The first 15-20 minutes will cover introductions and bird facts\, followed by a 40-60 minute exploratory walk in sun and shade. Little ones welcome in carriers\, strollers\, or on foot. Stay for all or part of the walk — whatever works for your family. \nMost birds will be spotted with the naked eye (hopefully!) — binoculars optional.
