Duck boats\, skate park\, and good transit connections make it lively\, but there’s good green space along the river\, and a decent number of species show up here. DESCRIPTION:Join us to look for birds in a unique urban habitat that often draws numerous uncommon and rare birds.Target birds include bluebirds\, bobolinks\, egrets\, flycatchers & kingbirds\, grosbeaks\, hawks\, herons\, kingfishers\, owls\, rails\, ravens & crows\, sandpipers\, swallows & swifts\, vultures\, warblers\, and woodpeckers. Birders of all levels will enjoy this trip. The trails are flat and easy to walk. We may offer optional 30-60 minute trip extensions to adjacent locations such as West Roxbury High School Marsh and/or Brook Farm. \nThe walk is free but preregistration is required. DESCRIPTION:In the fall water levels are lowered creating good conditions for ducks and shorebirds. We will also visit the adjacent Lexington community farm. Birds are found feasting on the remains of the crops planted there. We will walk about a mile on wide paths and some uneven ground (possibly muddy). DESCRIPTION:Everybody enjoys watching birds during the daytime\, but what do they do at night\, when they seem to disappear? Birds need sleep as much as we do\, and they have evolved unique sleep habits to match their intensely energetic lifestyle. Instead of long stretches of obliviousness\, they sleep in short bouts of several seconds or a few minutes\, waking up to look around for danger\, and then going back to sleep. To increase their vigilance\, birds can sleep\, shutting off only half their brain and one eye at a time\, leaving them able to respond instantly to any alarm. The social habits of sleeping birds are also distinctive. Most are solitary\, some sleep in pairs or families\, while others gain advantages of warmth\, safety\, and even social needs like finding a mate\, by joining in flocks\, not to mention guidance on where to get breakfast the next day. \nLearn more and register for the webinar.

Located in the heart of Boston\, the Esplanade is a 64-acre park along the south side of the Charles River. While serving as one of Boston’s staple common areas\, it is also a good spot to observe resident bird species of Massachusetts in a welcoming\, urban environment. \nWhether you’re a newcomer looking to start a new hobby or are a seasoned bird expert\, birders of all experience levels in their 20s and 30s are encouraged to join us for a casual evening of birdwatching! \nDress for the weather conditions; bring water! While the trip will start around 6:30pm\, it may still be hot out! Expect to walk approximately 3 miles on mostly paved/level paths until sundown. Bring binoculars if you have them; loaners are available on request (please email the trip leader ahead of time). \nThis trip is specifically dedicated to those aged 20-39 years. SUMMARY:Maine - Machias Region
DESCRIPTION:Join us on our annual trip to Machias area in Downeast Maine. The highlight of the trip is a boat trip to Machias Seal Island for Atlantic Puffins and other alcids\, weather permitting. We also tour beautiful coastlands and boreal forests in search of nesting warblers and other species. We explore the blueberry barrens\, and coastal wetlands for other species such as Sandhill Crane\, Black Terns\, Nelson’s Sparrow\, Upland Sandpiper\, and potential rarities. \nNOTE ON LIMITED MOBILITY: We don’t have any technical or rugged hiking\, however we are on our feet a lot looking for boreal species\, which can add up to several miles of walking per day. The boat landing on Machias can be slippery and treacherous\, but participants can safely stay on the boat and still encounter all the breeding birds at close range if they are concerned about the landing. \nThis trip is limited to 13 participants. DESCRIPTION:Join fellow birders in their 20s-30s for a special entry into the Early Birder series as we visit Belle Isle Marsh & the nearby Winthrop/Revere area! Nestled between Orient Heights\, Beachmont\, and Winthrop\, the salt marsh of Belle Isle is host to a wide variety of unique bird species. As we navigate the northern portion of the park\, expect to see your typical songbirds & coastal birds\, but also shorebirds and other migrants. There’s no other place like it! Following our time at Belle Isle\, we plan to carpool to the nearby beaches at Winthrop and/or Revere for more shorebirding action! If we’re lucky\, we will get to observe Piping Plovers nesting on the beaches! \nWhether you’re a newcomer looking to start a new hobby or are a seasoned bird expert\, birders of all experience levels in their 20s and 30s are encouraged to join! Let’s connect through our mutual appreciation for birds and the environment! Hope to see you there! \nMake sure to dress in clothes that cover your skin to avoid mosquito bites; bring water & bug spray! The mosquitos at Belle Isle can be nasty! Expect to walk approximately 3 miles on mostly level paths & beaches. Binoculars are highly recommended. If you need loaner binoculars\, they are available upon request (please email the trip leader ahead of time). Port-a-potties are available at the meeting location. \nThis trip is specifically dedicated to those aged 20-39 years. DESCRIPTION:Lowell Parks & Conservation Trust in association with Massachusetts Audubon\, Mill City Grows and the City of Lowell has preserved this former Christmas tree farm on Varnum Avenue with the intent of providing open space for residents and visitors to explore and enjoy. An all-persons trail ensures the property is accessible to everyone. We will look and listen for birds that also appreciate the protection of this space\, whether they are migrating to their final breeding locations or staying to spend the summer. Possible sightings include Black-backed  Woodpecker\, Canada Jay\, Boreal Chickadee\, 20+ species of breeding warblers\, and nesting ducks.
