DESCRIPTION:We’ll explore and look for birds in the northern part of the Fenway area around the gardens and recently restored Muddy River\, in collaboration with Boston Birding Festival and Walking City Trail. Expect up to 2 miles of walking on easy flat trails (paved and unpaved). \nThis beautiful and historical patch of green often attracts migrating songbirds and ducks. Established in 1942\, the Fenway Victory Garden is the oldest surviving victory garden in the United States. \nThis is an opportunity to learn a bit more about the Boston Birding Festival and the Walking City Trail. SUMMARY:Stony Brook Reservation Bird Walk with Boston Birding Festival and Walking City Trail
DESCRIPTION:We’ll explore and look for birds in the  along the Walking City Trail in the Stony Brook Reservation in the heart of Boston\, in collaboration with Boston Birding Festival and Walking City Trail. Expect about 2 miles miles on trails that will be difficult in places. The trails can be rocky\, have exposed roots\, and somewhat steep. They can also be muddy if it has rained recently. \nEstablished in 1894 as a city greenspace\, Boston’s Stony Brook Reservation is managed by the Metropolitan Park System of Greater Boston and the DCR. This urban gem deserves and has special value to people who live nearby. The wilder sections of this property are known for their dramatic rocky cliffs and outcroppings and include woodlands\, brooks\, a beautiful pond\, floodplain and marshes\, shallow wetlands\, and certified vernal pools. At the north\, Bellevue Hill\, at 338 feet\, is the highest point in the city of Boston and can be good for hawk-watching. \nFor this walk\, we’ll explore the eastern side of Stony Brook Reservation and see what late migrants and resident birds we can find. \nThis is an opportunity to learn a bit more about the Boston Birding Festival and the Walking City Trail. Located in the northwest part of Cambridge\, Fresh Pond is home to 162 acres of space consisting of forests\, meadows\, wetlands\, and open water. As we navigate our way around the 2.5 mile park loop trail\, expect to see all kinds of songbirds\, waterbirds\, and spring migrants (especially warblers!) as we reach peak migration time in Massachusetts! \nIf you’re interested\, stick around afterwards and we may walk over to Mount Auburn Cemetery for more birding! \nWhether you’re a newcomer looking to start a new hobby or are a seasoned bird expert\, birders of all experience levels in their 20s and 30s are encouraged to join! Let’s connect through our mutual appreciation for birds and the environment! Hope to see you there! \nDress for the weather conditions; bring water! Expect to walk approximately 3 miles on mostly paved/level paths. Bring binoculars if you have them; loaners are available on request (please email the trip leader ahead of time). Port-a-potties are available at the ranger station on the south side of the park. \nThis trip is specifically dedicated to those aged 20-39 years. Please do not bring children. \nPlan to meet at the first intersection south of the park entrance across the street from 603 Concord Ave. You will be in the right place if you are approaching an open area (Lusitania Field). Meeting location coordinates: 42.38801\, -71.14504. \nParking is available at designated areas at the southern edge of the park (Huron Ave.)\, but this is very limited. We can recommend parking at the Alewife T station and walking 15 minutes to the meeting location. Cambridge has strict parking restrictions and you may risk your car getting towed if you park elsewhere. There are some metered/time-limited parking spots on Wheeler St\, Fawcett St\, and Concord Ave. Don’t park in store lots (risk of towing). Cambridge residents with sticker can park in the Fresh Pond parking lots.

The Bird-a-Thon’s goal is to encourage blind and partially sighted birders of any age\, experience\, or location to go outdoors and listen for bird songs and sounds. This birding event is specifically designed for blind and low vision birders and others with disabilities to enjoy birds during a guided outing. No previous birding experience needed. \nWe will walk one mile on the All Persons Trail (Universally Accessible trail). The trails and boardwalk traverse meadows and wetlands\, home to birds\, butterflies\, and plants on crushed stone path and boardwalk. A naturalist will provide information about birds and the natural environment during the bird-a-thon.
