The path is flat with a mix of gravel and dirt surfaces with newly added boardwalks on the wetter sections. Boots are strongly advised. A visit to nearby Peter’s Hill in the Arboretum is an option afterwards if others feel inclined.

The Bird-a-Thon’s goal is to encourage blind and partially sighted birders of any age\, experience\, or location to go outdoors and listen for bird songs and sounds. This birding event is specifically designed for blind and low vision birders and others with disabilities to enjoy birds during a guided outing. No previous birding experience needed. \nWe will walk one mile on the All Persons Trail (Universally Accessible trail). The trails and boardwalk traverse meadows and wetlands\, home to birds\, butterflies\, and plants on crushed stone path and boardwalk. A naturalist will provide information about birds and the natural environment during the bird-a-thon. DESCRIPTION:A small but mighty urban wild that offers a variety of habitat. Expect to see a variety of woodpeckers\, resident birds\, warblers\, and other migratory species\, as well as a surprise or two. The path is flat with a mix of gravel and dirt surfaces with newly added boardwalks on the wetter sections. Boots are strongly advised. A visit to nearby Peter’s Hill in the Arboretum is an option afterwards if others feel inclined.

We will be walking for about 1 mile and identifying birds on land and water along the way. \nMeet on the path by the river near the Centennial Fountain. From Back Bay\, cross the Dartmouth St pedestrian bridge and walk left along the lagoon to the foot bridge that crosses to the outer side\, then right to where you are parallel to the fountain and look for people with binoculars. From Charles MBTA stop\, walk along the river past the Hatch Shell and crossing a footbridge to the outermost path by the river continue till you see the fountain. \n

SUMMARY:CANCELLED Birding by Ear for Visually Impaired Persons at Boston Nature Center
DESCRIPTION:CANCELLED due to rain.\n  \n  \n  \n  \nBird Walk: 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.  / Check-in: 8:30 – 9:00 a.m. \nLocation: Mass Audubon Boston Nature Center\, 500 Walk Hill St.\, Mattapan\, MA 02126 \nJoin us for a birding event for people who are blind or have low vision at Mass Audubon’s Boston Nature Center. We will try to see or hear as many bird species as possible. Blind and partially sighted people of any age or experience level will listen for bird songs and sounds. This birding event is specifically designed for blind and low vision birders and others with disabilities to enjoy birds during a guided outing. No previous birding experience needed. \nWe will walk one mile on the All Persons Trail (Universally Accessible trail). The trails and boardwalk traverse meadows and wetlands\, home to birds\, butterflies\, and plants on crushed stone path and boardwalk. Fruit (such as bananas\, apples\, oranges\, etc.) will be available after the walk. \nRegistration: \n\nTo participate in the outing please register by contacting Michealle Larkins at mlarkins@brooklinebirdclub.org or 617-448-0796\n\nPossible birds: \n\nWild Turkey\, Red-bellied Woodpecker\, Red-tailed hawk\, and Gray Catbird\n\nWhat to bring/wear:   \n\nBinoculars if you have one\, weather appropriate attire (jacket etc. if cold out; sun hat if sunny) sunscreen\, bug spray\, water bottle (can be filled on site)\, and snacks as needed. If applying bug repellent on site\, please use non-Deet bug repellent to protect birds and humans who may have respiratory issues. If you use Deet\, please apply before arriving. Please no fragrances due to potential triggers for medical conditions.\n\nWhat we provide: \n\nLoaner binoculars – 15 available\nLoaner monocular – 1 available\nHandheld magnifiers – 2 available\nHarness for binoculars – 1 available\n\nAccessibility features \n\nWell-maintained All Persons Trail\, at least 36” wide with packed crushed stone path and boardwalk with 3” lips\nTrails are mostly flat; one area with slight incline approximately 50 feet of distance\nSensory trail manual in braille\nTrail maps in printed or tactile formats\nAudio tour for accessible trail in English\, Spanish\, and a version for children in English only. There are no lines marking spaces.
