SUMMARY:Crane WMA Evening Walk
DESCRIPTION:This unique grassland habitat is host to a rich variety of species\, including Eastern Meadowlark\, Grasshopper Sparrow\, Bobolink\, American Kestrel\, and possibly Blue Grosbeak. We will focus on observing the meadowlarks and Grasshopper Sparrows for signs of breeding; especially carrying food and recent fledglings.  We will finish up with listening for Eastern Whip-poor-wills call in the surrounding pine barrens after sunset.

SUMMARY:Fenway Area Bird Walk with Boston Birding Festival and Walking City Trail
DESCRIPTION:We’ll explore and look for birds in the northern part of the Fenway area around the gardens and recently restored Muddy River\, in collaboration with Boston Birding Festival and Walking City Trail. Expect up to 2 miles of walking on easy flat trails (paved and unpaved). \nThis beautiful and historical patch of green often attracts migrating songbirds and ducks. Established in 1942\, the Fenway Victory Garden is the oldest surviving victory garden in the United States. \nThis is an opportunity to learn a bit more about the Boston Birding Festival and the Walking City Trail. (This bird walk will walk on a section of the WCT.) \nNew birders are welcome\, and we will have some binoculars to lend. \nRegistration with Boston Birding Festival is required at this link (https://www.bostonbirdingfestival.org/posts/fenway-area-bird-walk/). In addition BBF requires a waiver (made available during the registration process) which you should print and sign and bring with you. They will have waiver forms available if you forget.

SUMMARY:Stony Brook Reservation Bird Walk with Boston Birding Festival and Walking City Trail
DESCRIPTION:We’ll explore and look for birds in the  along the Walking City Trail in the Stony Brook Reservation in the heart of Boston\, in collaboration with Boston Birding Festival and Walking City Trail. Expect about 2 miles miles on trails that will be difficult in places. The trails can be rocky\, have exposed roots\, and somewhat steep. They can also be muddy if it has rained recently. \nEstablished in 1894 as a city greenspace\, Boston’s Stony Brook Reservation is managed by the Metropolitan Park System of Greater Boston and the DCR. This urban gem deserves and has special value to people who live nearby. The wilder sections of this property are known for their dramatic rocky cliffs and outcroppings and include woodlands\, brooks\, a beautiful pond\, floodplain and marshes\, shallow wetlands\, and certified vernal pools. At the north\, Bellevue Hill\, at 338 feet\, is the highest point in the city of Boston and can be good for hawk-watching. \nFor this walk\, we’ll explore the eastern side of Stony Brook Reservation and see what late migrants and resident birds we can find. \nThis is an opportunity to learn a bit more about the Boston Birding Festival and the Walking City Trail. (This bird walk will walk on a section of the WCT.) \nNew birders are welcome\, and we will have some binoculars to lend. \nRegistration with Boston Birding Festival is required at this link (https://www.bostonbirdingfestival.org/posts/stony-brook-reservation-walk/). In addition BBF requires a waiver (made available through the registration process) which you should print and sign and bring with you. They will have waiver forms available if you forget.

Expect about 2 miles miles on trails that will be difficult in places. The trails can be rocky\, have exposed roots\, and somewhat steep. They can also be muddy if it has rained recently. New birders welcome. We will have some binoculars to lend. DESCRIPTION:Join fellow birders in their 20s-30s as we visit the Charles River Esplanade for an evening bird walk! Located in the heart of Boston\, the Esplanade is a 64-acre park along the south side of the Charles River. While serving as one of Boston’s staple common areas\, it is also a good spot to observe resident bird species of Massachusetts in a welcoming\, urban environment. \nWhether you’re a newcomer looking to start a new hobby or are a seasoned bird expert\, birders of all experience levels in their 20s and 30s are encouraged to join us for a casual evening of birdwatching! \nDress for the weather conditions; bring water! While the trip will start around 6:30pm\, it may still be hot out! Expect to walk approximately 3 miles on mostly paved/level paths until sundown. Bring binoculars if you have them; loaners are available on request (please email the trip leader ahead of time). \nThis trip is specifically dedicated to those aged 20-39 years. Please do not bring children. \nPlan to meet at the entrance to Frances Appleton Bridge (pedestrian bridge) just outside of the Charles/MGH red line stop. DESCRIPTION:Join us to look for birds in a unique urban habitat that often draws numerous uncommon and rare birds.Target birds include bluebirds\, bobolinks\, egrets\, flycatchers & kingbirds\, grosbeaks\, hawks\, herons\, kingfishers\, owls\, rails\, ravens & crows\, sandpipers\, swallows & swifts\, vultures\, warblers\, and woodpeckers. Birders of all levels will enjoy this trip. The trails are flat and easy to walk. We may offer optional 30-60 minute trip extensions to adjacent locations such as West Roxbury High School Marsh and/or Brook Farm. \nThe walk is free but preregistration is required. Please preregister by emailing neil.calabro1@mac.com. Registration is limited to 20 people. Be sure to wear a hat and waterproof footwear and pack water. Insect repellent and sunblock are recommended.
