DESCRIPTION:We are happy to offer this shorebirding field trip at Winthrop Beach led by Soheil Zendeh. \nShorebirding beginners welcome. \nWe meet at the corner of Winthrop Shore Drive and Sturgis St in Winthrop. A scope will probably be useful if you have one. Definitely bring binoculars. Meeting at 9 am\, timed with the tide. \nSoheil is giving a webinar for the club on For over 50 years\, Soheil Zendeh has been monitoring shorebirds populations in Massachusetts and elsewhere. Over the past 35 years there have been drastic drops in most shorebird populations\, particularly long distance migratory birds from the Arctic. He is the author of New England Shorebird Guide\, a web-based field guide for New England shorebirders focused on helping introductory to medium level observers. SUMMARY:Charles River Esplanade (Early Birders Series)
DESCRIPTION:Join fellow birders in their 20s-30s as we visit the Charles River Esplanade for an evening bird walk! Located in the heart of Boston\, the Esplanade is a 64-acre park along the south side of the Charles River. While serving as one of Boston’s staple common areas\, it is also a good spot to observe resident bird species of Massachusetts in an urban and welcoming environment.\nWhether you’re a newcomer looking to start a new hobby or are a seasoned bird expert\, birders of all experience levels in their 20s and 30s are encouraged to join us for a casual evening of birdwatching!\nDress for the weather conditions; bring water! While the trip will start around 6:30pm\, it may still be hot out! Expect to walk approximately 3 miles on mostly paved/level paths until sundown. Bring binoculars if you have them; loaners are available on request (please email the trip leader ahead of time). \nThis trip is specifically dedicated to those aged 20-39 years. Please do not bring children. \nPlan to meet at the Edwin Upton Curtis Memorial next to the Hatch Memorial Shell. Parking is difficult around here and it is strongly recommended that you arrive via public transportation. Meeting location coordinates: 42.35726\, -71.07426 \nTake the T to Charles/MGH red line stop and take the Frances Appleton Bridge to the Esplanade. SUMMARY:Mystic River Reservation (Early Birders Series)
DESCRIPTION:Join fellow birders in their 20s-30s as we visit Mystic River State Reservation! Located just north of Boston in Medford\, Mystic River Reservation is a state nature reserve home to over 300 acres of space in a riverfront setting. As we navigate our way around the 2.3 mile park loop trail\, expect to see all kinds of songbirds\, sparrows\, and hawks. If you have any questions\, reach out to the trip leader! \nWhether you’re a newcomer looking to start a new hobby or are a seasoned bird expert\, birders of all experience levels in their 20s and 30s are encouraged to join! Let’s connect through our mutual appreciation for birds and the environment! Hope to see you there! \nDress for the weather conditions; bring water! Expect to walk approximately 2-3 miles on mostly paved/level paths. We will start in the parking lot and make our way counter-clockwise around the park back to where we started. Bring binoculars if you have them; loaners are available on request (please email the trip leader ahead of time). Please be aware/respectful of cyclists that use the park. \nThis trip is specifically dedicated to those aged 20-39 years. Please do not bring children. \n	Plan to meet at the parking lot adjacent to the police station at the northern portion of the park (along Rt. 16). Meeting location coordinates: 42.40421\, -71.08530. \nFree public parking is available at the meeting area (preferred) and at the boat house on the other side of the river. \n	If you are coming from Boston\, take the Orange Line to the Wellington T stop and walk about 0.5 miles to get to the meeting location (cross the elevated walkway and pass the police station to get to the parking lot). If you are coming from the north\, you can take a 100\, 108\, or 134 bus to the Fellsway @ Middlesex Ave – Wellington Circle bus stop and cross the intersection. DESCRIPTION:Join us to observe resident birds and fall migrants in a unique urban habitat that is a favorite for many bird species\, including uncommon and rare birds. Birders of all levels will enjoy this walk. The trails are (generally) flat and easy to walk. SUMMARY:Fresh Pond Reservation (Early Birders Series)
DESCRIPTION:Join fellow birders in their 20s-30s as we visit Fresh Pond Reservation! Located in the northwest part of Cambridge\, Fresh Pond is home to 162 acres of space consisting of forests\, meadows\, wetlands\, and open water. As we navigate our way around the 2.5 mile park loop trail\, expect to see all kinds of songbirds\, waterbirds\, and fall migrants (especially ducks & warblers!) as we embrace peak Fall migration time in Massachusetts!\nIf you’re interested\, stick around afterwards and we may walk over to Mount Auburn Cemetery for more birding depending on the conditions.\nWhether you’re a newcomer looking to start a new hobby or are a seasoned bird expert\, birders of all experience levels in their 20s and 30s are encouraged to join! Let’s connect through our mutual appreciation for birds and the environment! Hope to see you there!\nDress for the weather conditions; bring water! Expect to walk approximately 3 miles on mostly paved/level paths. Bring binoculars if you have them; loaners are available on request (please email the trip leader ahead of time). Port-a-potties are available at the ranger station on the south side of the park. \nThis trip is specifically dedicated to those aged 20-39 years. Please do not bring children. \nPlan to meet at the first intersection south of the park entrance across the street from 603 Concord Ave. You will be in the right place if you are approaching an open area (Lusitania Field). Meeting location coordinates: 42.38801\, -71.14504. \nParking meters on Cambridge streets are generally free and without a duration limit on Sunday. Be sure to read the sign – “Except Sunday” means you are fine. Metered parking on Wheeler St and Faucet St shuld be free. There is also parking on Huron Ave on the sourthern edge of the resercvation. Some parking there or elsewhere will be marked as resident only but most of those spots will say “Except Sunday” (be sure to read the sign) and that really does mean you can park there on Sunday.\nThe Alewife T station has paid parking and is a walk 15 minutes to the meeting location. \nPublic transit:Getting off at the Concord Ave/Wheeler St stop on the 74 or 78 bus is the most direct option for getting close to the meeting location. Hope to see you there!\nExpect to walk approximately 2 miles on mostly level paved paths. Binoculars are highly recommended. If you need loaner binoculars\, they are available upon request (please email the trip leader ahead of time). The golf course club house has public restrooms if needed.  \nThis trip is specifically dedicated to those aged 20-39 years. Please do not bring children. \nPlan to meet by the tennis courts next to the Shattuck Picnic Grove on Circuit Drive.
