DESCRIPTION:Kick off your big day at Parker River NWR with Marilyn!  We’ll try to see everything possible at PRNWR. (Be sure to share all your Massachusetts lists that day with ebird account BBCBigDay!) \nCar pooling will be encouraged because parking could be tough at certain locations. A lot of people will be doing big days! \nAs we’ll be hitting a lot of spots\, it can be a long morning. People can  of course leave early when they need to. \nMeeting at Hellcat\, not lot 1.  \nRestrooms available (best bathrooms at lot 1. Stop on your way in). Note that an entrance fee or pass is required to visit Parker River NWR. \nCheck with leader in case of weather concerns.

SUMMARY:Big Day Walks: Roslindale Wetlands Urban Park plus Peters Hill at Arnold Arboretum
DESCRIPTION:Great start to your BBC Big Day with Judith and Rob at two nice and productive Boston spots. Be sure to share all your May 9 lists with ebird account BBCBigDay. \nRoslindale Wetlands (7-8:30 am): A small but mighty urban wild that offers a variety of habitat. Expect to see a variety of woodpeckers\, resident birds\, warblers\, and other migratory species\, as well as a surprise or two. The path is flat with a mix of gravel and dirt surfaces with newly added boardwalks on the wetter sections. Boots are strongly advised. \nPeters Hill (8:30-10 am): Spring birding in a beautiful location with lots of flowering trees that attract Baltimore Orioles\, Orchard Orioles\, Tree Swallows and other spring migrants. Leaders can provide directions to Peters Hill at the end of the Roslindale Wetlands segment. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Weston Station Pond and nearby Mass Central Rail Trail
DESCRIPTION:Discover a quiet hotspot with miles of trails and a lot of birds! The diversity of habitats in and around Weston Station Pond make it a great spot to look for migrants in May ranging from warblers to waterfowl to shorebirds to others. In addition\, a Great Blue Heron rookery ensures that even if it’s a quiet day for migration that there will be something awe inspiring to look at. Expect to walk about 3 miles in total on a combination of dirt and paved trails. Dirt trails could be muddy depending on conditions. There are no restrooms available at this location.

SUMMARY:Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:We will walk 3 to 4 miles on slightly hilly trails to check out resident species in the Sanctuary’s woodlands\, wetlands and fields. We will look for resident warblers\, Eastern Bluebirds\, up to five species of woodpeckers\, vireos\, Baltimore Orioles\, and Rose-breasted Grosbeaks. We will also spend time listening and scanning the marsh for Wood Duck\, Glossy Ibis\, Marsh Wren\, Virginia Rail\, and Sora\, with owls and woodcock possible late in the day.
